Now that the first batch of vaccines has arrived in Vanuatu, it’s time for us to step up and do the right thing. I’m eligible to get vaccinated, and I intend to get my shot as soon as I’m permitted.
Why? Because vaccines are medicine, and medicine saves lives.
If you have a headache, what do you do? You take a Panadol. That’s medicine.
If your child gets an infection, what do you do? You use a cream or a powder to kill the infection. That’s medicine. If that doesn’t work, you give them antibiotics.
How do antibiotics work? They boost your body’s ability to fight the bacteria that cause the infection.
How does a vaccine work? It boosts your body’s ability to fight the virus that causes the illness.
I don’t worry about taking Panadol or using antibiotics when the doctor tells me to. Billions of people have done it before. My doctor knows when it’s safe.
I won’t hesitate to get injected, either. Over 1.5 BILLION shots have been administered. If there were problems with them, we’d know.
